Does your editorial writing sound like you?

I think writing is one of my strong suits so I did end up liking the way I wrote my publication. Authenticity of voice is important to me. I appreciate humor and references, so the reader or audience feels like they are more personally in touch with what they are reading and who they're absorbing the information from. I liked the fact that I took initiative to interview people to help aid me in my writing. Writing it actually made me realise how interested I was in potentially taking up fashion journalism.

Are you identifying diverse and innovative current fashion design references to make your ideas relevant and reflective of emerging trends and ideas?

Yes. I think while my publication has a clear theme of what it is about, I didn't make every chunk of writing about it. I liked to explore abit, just like how a magazine would feel. Branching off into subtopics and other related topics that tie in with my theme of Subversive Basics. For example for my FJ Essay I chose to talk about the digitalization of fashion which I thought was really cool and eye opening information for anyone interested in the future of fashion. I made sure to reference key designers like Nensi Dojaka, Supriya Lee, KNWLS and Hyein Seio aswell as Tiktokers such as Agus Panzoni (a fashion forcaster that is very popular). Interesting engaging content is important to the way I write and what I like to include.

Why do you personally feel it is important to promote the theme you have chosen?

There is no particular heavy importance of the theme, but rather just acting as a snippet into the future. Picking out a microtrend that currently exists and that I think will snowball into an even bigger trend in the next few years and giving people something engaging with words and pictures. Not just a book but something you can keep too.

What challenges did you face in designing your text double page spread and how did you overcome them?

Simply, I am not that technically advanced in using indesign. I pushed myself to experiment and used the workshops to explore how it worked, messing around with how I wanted my page numbers. I had loads of different ideas for formats, and wanted to include alot of interactive physical things in this little zine which would have probably been too much, so I had to evaluate on which ones were the best to include and why. I thought the front page was very important aswell as the imagery and styling, but I also knew that I did want my layout to be very simplistic like the ID magazines which are one of my personal favourites in terms of magazine layouts.

How does the experience of viewing a digital publication compare to the printed version, and which one do you prefer?

I will always prefer something printed and in hand, something you can physically interact with. I think you can appreciate it more, the textures and the colours more. Some stuff does look better digital but it looks flat, and a book isn't meant to be flat, it is meant to be held. So I used digital techniques but I created an in hand interactive book with pages using analogue techniques too.

Do you have a particular audience in mind for your publication?

Not necessary. It is also just meant to feel novelty. Like a little book about a microtrend that you pick up and see. Imagine there were 30 different little books on different microtrends that existed, and you picked up a different one each time to flick through. I wanted to create something with longevity, which is why I based it alot around futurism.
